Which axis do you have set as your "up" axis in Max?

Hi Please make sure following thing before using AnimationEditor.

(1) Rotate is keyframed instead of just rotated in your scene.
(2) Using [OpenCOLLADA] exporter instead of [Autodesk Collada] exporter.
(3) Make sure [Standard Options] Bake Matrices is "ON"

Try attached Max2011 scene to export layed down idle motion.

Regards
