Overview

City-specific items are items that can only be used (and seen) in the specific City it is assigned to.
City Default items are items that, in addition to being City-specific, are automatically added to your inventory as long as you are in that City.

NOTE: These features are available only for developers with CITY hosting plans or higher. It is not available for VILLAGE and OUTPOST hosting plans.

City-Specific Items

You can designate items to be City-specific, meaning the item can only be seen and used withing a specific City.

  • When uploading an item from the Dev MyPage, you will see a menu item called City Limit.
  • The pull-down menu shows all the Cities you currently own.
  • Select a City and upload the item.
  • Once the item passes QA and is released in Blue Mars, that item can only be used within the City you specified.
  • For example, if you are wearing a hat that is designated as specific to City A, you can only wear that hat while you are in City A. As soon as you leave City A and enter City B, you will no longer be able to see your hat in your clothing menu.
  • NOTE: If the clothes you are wearing is City-specific, then those clothes will disappear when you leave that City and enter another City. You should change into non-City-specific clothing before leaving the City, or if possible, layer on the City-specific clothing over your regular clothing.

City Default Items

In addition to being City-specific, City default items also have the property of automatically showing up in the inventory of all visitors visiting the specified City.
NOTE: This option will only be available if you designate an item as City-specific. It will not work for "Worldwide" items.

  • If you upload City-specific content, and your hosting plan is "City" or above, you will also see a Default Item check box.
  • Check the Default Item checkbox when uploading your asset.
  • Once the item passes QA and is released in Blue Mars, that item 1) can only be used within the City you specified, and 2) will show up in your inventory while you are in that specific City.
  • NOTE: If the clothes you are wearing is City-specific, then those clothes will disappear when you leave that City and enter another City. You should change into non-City-specific clothing before leaving the City, or if possible, layer on the City-specific clothing over your regular clothing.
  • You can have up to 32 City Default items per City.
  • Shop interiors can be designated as City Default items.
  • Residence interiors can be designated as City Default items.
  • City Default items can be set to a Residence.
