Summary
Congratulations on becoming a Blue Mars developer! As a next step, you should take a moment to think about what type of developer you would like to be here (at least for starters). Are you good at designing and creating items and would like to show off or sell your creations in-world? Or do you envision creating and running your very own City, complete with entertainment, real estate, and shopping?
In Blue Mars, you have various levels of roles you can take on as a developer depending on your goals and ambitions. The table below shows a general overview of the four types of developers--Content Creator, Shop Owner, Block Developer, and City Developer--, the roles that they play, and the knowledge/skills that are recommended for each role. In terms of development complexity (that is, the amount of things you need to create and manage), the simplest is the Content Creator, with increased roles and responsibilities as you move up the table, with the City Developer playing the most roles and having the most control over their in-world environment.
Please note that this is only meant to be a general guide to the various developer roles. How much you develop your Shops, Blocks, or Cities is entirely up to you, and depending on your involvement you may have more or less of the roles described below, which may require more or less of the skills listed in the table. You may also choose to share these roles and responsibilities with other developers, combining your various expertise to create and operate your City.
