What is a Blink?

  • The word 'Blink' is a shortening of the term Blue Mars Link.
  • Blinks are hyperlinks that can be used inside and outside of the Blue Mars client to transport users to locations within Blue Mars.

How do I use Blinks?

  • Blinks use the following protocol to deliver users to their locations:
  • Replace the term 'citycode' in this URL with an individual city's city code, a unique identifier that exists for each city within Blue Mars. NOTE: this code is NOT the same as the city's name.

NOTE: Prior to May 2011, Blinks used to use the following convention:

Cities created prior to May 2011 can continue to use the old URL convention, and they will automatically be redirected to the new location.

Using a Blink in Chat

  • Enter the URL into the chat window and hit enter
  • A clickable Blink will appear in the chat window
  • Click the left mouse button on the Blink to follow the result to your location.
  • You can also follow Blinks that other users have sent as well.
  • In chat, you will bypass the city's landing page and go directly to your chosen location.

If the City isn't Updated

  • If you try to follow a Blink for a city that you don't have, or that you don't have the latest version of, you will be prompted to download the latest version.
  • If you reject the prompt, you will continue your Blue Mars experience unchanged.
  • If you accept the prompt, you may continue your Blue Mars experience and will be notified when the download is complete. At this point you will be asked if you want to continue the Blink process.

Using a Blink on the Web

  • Blinks may be inserted into HTML pages as any normal hyperlink.
  • Following a Blink will take you to the city's landing page.

City Landing Pages

  • Each city in Blue Mars has its own unique landing page.
  • Landing pages can contain a wide variety of information about a city including: text, images and even movies.
  • From a city's landing page, you can download the latest version of the client, search for other cities, or continue directly into the city.

List of Blinks

This list of Blinks shows the unique identifiers for Blue Mars cities as of April 25, 2011. It will be updated periodically by Blue Mars staff.
